HC Deb 22 July 1974 vol 877 cc333-4W
Dr. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is aware of the structural defects which have appeared in the concrete roofing of the Furze Platt Secondary School and the East Berkshire College of Further Education; and if he will consider making special funds available to put these defects right.

Mr. Armstrong

Yes. The structural defects at both of these educational buildings have been included in telephoned reports from the local authority, which has said that in both cases remedial work is in progress. Most of the school and certain rooms in the college have been taken out of use. Any application by the local education authority for authorisation of building work necessary to ensure safety will be dealt with under normal financial arrangements.
