Mr. Fitt

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he can now make a statement on his discussions with the representatives of the Hughes/ Kennedy Bakery in West Belfast; and whether he will grant financial assistance to this concern with a view to preventing unemployment of the workers.

Mr. Orme

The Northern Ireland Department of Commerce has offered special short-term assistance to Hughes Bakery Ltd. The purpose of this assistance is to help the company maintain employment in West Belfast and to facilitate the rationalisation of the firm's operations.
