asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many recruits were enlisted into the individual Irish regiments during the financial year 1973–74.

The numbers of recruits enlisted into the Irish regiments in 1973–74 were as follows:

Adults and Young Soldiers Maturing Juniors
Queens Royal Irish Hussars 69 12
5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards 44 16
Irish Guards 83 19
Royal Irish Rangers 87 27

Note: The maturing Juniors shown joined their regiments as adults for the first time in 1973–74 although they were enlisted into the Army as Juniors in earlier years.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the average wastage rate in the Army for infantry recruits in Irish regiments in the twenty-sixth, fifty-second and one hundred and fourth week, respectively; and what was the average rate in the infantry as a whole for those periods in the financial year 1973–74.

The average wastage rate in the Army for infantry recruits in Irish regiments at the 26-, 52- and 104-week stages and the average wastage rate for the infantry as a whole for those periods in the financial year 1973–74 are as follows:
