asked the Secretary of State for Defence what reductions in the numbers of military and civilian staff are planned in his Department during 1974–75.

Mr. Mason

The total strength of United Kingdom Service personnel on 1st April 1975 is planned to be 341,150. This represents a reduction of 7,350 compared with the corresponding figure for the previous year. For civilian posts, the respective figures are 265,800 and 2,000.
