Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what were the numbers of police men and women in established posts in Scotland during each of the past six years for which figures are available, the numbers recruited in each year and the annual wastage, both in figures and as a percentage.

The number of policemen and policewomen in service in Scotland at 31st December in each of the years 1968 to 1973 is shown in the table below.
