HC Deb 18 July 1974 vol 877 c221W
Mr. Dixon

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can make a further statement about the number of dependants of immigrants here illegally prior to the recent amnesty.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

The 61 people who up to 16th July had been given indefinite leave to remain here have said that they have 176 dependants eligible to join them. In each case the claim will have to be verified if these dependants apply to come to this country.

Mr. Redmond

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many amnesties have been granted to illegal immigrants since his statement on 11th April; and how many amnesties have been requested and refused in the same period.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Up to 16th July 1,004 people had applied for indefinite leave to remain under the terms of the announcement which I made on 11th April. Sixty-one have been given indefinite leave to remain and 82 have been found ineligible to benefit. The other cases are still being examined.
