HC Deb 18 July 1974 vol 877 c230W
Mr. Blaker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether immigrants who are expected to arrive from Chile over the next six months will be eligible for all supplementary benefits.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

Under the Supplementary Benefit Act 1966 determinations about entitlement to benefit are the responsibility of the Supplementary Benefict Commission and it is not possible for it to say, in advance of considering claims to benefit by individual immigrants, whether their circumstances will justify the award of benefit. But, if their resources are less than their requirements by supplementary benefit standards and any other relevant conditions are satisfied, benefit would normally be payable.
