HC Deb 17 July 1974 vol 877 c180W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many persons under the age of 21 years are presently committed to Barlinnie Prison to await trial on a charge of murder; and if he is now in a position to reassess the suitability of Longriggend Remand Institution as a more appropriate place of detention for untried prisoners who are under the age of 21 years held on murder charges.

Mr. William Ross

Three persons under the age of 21 are currently in Barlinnie Prison awaiting trial for murder. My inquiries into the suitability of Longriggend Remand Institution as a more appropriate place of detention for such prisoners are not yet complete but I shall write to my hon. Friend as soon as possible.
