HC Deb 17 July 1974 vol 877 cc134-5W
23. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement about Anglo-Rhodesia relations and progress towards a settlement.

25. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his talks with representatives of the Rhodesian African National Council.

Mr. James Callaghan

I have nothing to add to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Norfolk, North-West (Mr. Brocklebank-Fowler) earlier this afternoon.

Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will take steps to change the name of Southern Rhodesia to Zimbabwe with effect from 1st September.

Miss Joan Lestor

I think we must try to change not the name but the circumstances of Rhodesia, by promoting a settlement worked out with and supported by the African majority. Thereafter the people of the country can decide for themselves on its name.
