HC Deb 17 July 1974 vol 877 cc136-7W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is Her Majesty's Government's policy towards the creation of a permanent commission on multinational corporations as proposed to the United Nations Economic and Social Council in July; and whether the United Kingdom would be prepared to take part in the work of such a commission.

Mr. Ennals

In my speech to the Economic and Social Council on 8th July, I indicated that we should in principle be glad to participate in the work of a United Nations commission on multinational corporations. But the report of the Group of Eminent Persons which was set up to study various aspects of this subject has only just been published, and the council has not yet discussed its proposals in detail. We shall certainly consider all views put forward in the discussion when formulating our own attitude.
