HC Deb 17 July 1974 vol 877 c169W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now seek to amend the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 to allow the price of lottery tickets to be raised from the old one shilling to 10 new pence.

Dr. Summerskill

An increase in the maximum price of lottery tickets was among the recommendations in the Report of the Interdepartmental Working Party on Lotteries, but this would deal with only one aspect of the law on charitable and sporting lotteries, which needs to be considered as a whole. We are sympathetically inclined to proposals for enlarging the scale of these lotteries, but I cannot say more for the present.
