Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has made to Warrington New Town Development Corporation regarding the percentage mix of houses to rent and houses for sale; and what change in previous policy this represents.

As my right hon. Friend told my hon. Friend the Member for Northampton, North (Mrs. Colquhoun) on 8th July, we hope to complete our review of policy on the proportions of houses to be built for sale and rent in new towns by the autumn.

Meanwhile, although I have not made any representations to Warrington Development Corporation, it is taking steps to increase its stock of rented housing and is currently purchasing over 100 properties originally intended for owner-occupation.
