The following table shows the benefits payable, under the police pensions scheme, to the widow of a police officer killed in the execution of his duty. The higher rates of benefit in the first column are payable in the circumstances set out in Regulation 29 of the Police Pensions Regulations 1973 (SI 1973 No. 428)—broadly where death resulted from an attack, or an injury sustained while effecting an arrest or attempting to save life. These provisions were last reviewed in 1972 and there are no current proposals for a review.

In addition, the widow of a police officer whose death results from a criminal act may apply for compensation to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.
