§ Mr. Normantonasked the Secretary of State for Industry whether a factory carrying out the manufacturing process of tyre retreading is included in the standard industrial classification as a manufacturing process eligible for grants under the Industry Act.
§ Mr. HefferTyre retreading does not qualify for grant under the Industry Act. The qualifying activities are principally the activities described in Orders II to XX of the Standard Industrial Classification but with certain specified exceptions all repair activities are expressly excluded. Tyre retreading is included in Order XIX but since it is not one of the specified forms of repairing which qualify it is caught by the general exclusion of repair activities.
