HC Deb 12 July 1974 vol 876 cc594-5W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a further statement about the progress of his discussions with Triumph Motor Cycles and former employees of Beaver-brook Newspapers in Scotland, respectively, regarding financial assistance from public funds.

Mr. Heffer

Following further discussions with the parties concerned I am now prepared in principle to provide financial assistance to enable a co-operative to be formed at Meriden to produce motor cycles there. Some features remain to be considered with representatives of the proposed co-operative and Norton Villiers Triumph Limited and with the Industrial Development Advisory Board whom I will be consulting. I hope to make a full statement in the House shortly.

My Department is continuing its assessment of the application by former employees of Beaverbrook Newspapers in Glasgow for assistance under Section 7 of the Industry Act towards a new newspaper.
