HC Deb 11 July 1974 vol 876 c572W
Mr. Robin F. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many households on supplementary benefit were wage-stopped at the most recent convenient date; and if she will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the number of cases who were disabled or chronically sick and the total number of households arranged in bands by each successive pound by which they were wage-stopped.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

Following is the available information—

Number of claimants with benefit subject to wage stop on 23rd April 1974–8,342.

Range No. of claimants
£1 and under 3,237
£1.01—£2.00 2,754
£2.01—£3.00 2,103
£3.01—£4.00 966
Over £4.00 1,275
Total 10,335

Information about claimants with minor disablements is not available. Claimants who have substantial disablements or are chronically sick would not normally have their benefit wage-stopped.
