§ LORD AVEBURYasked Her Majesty's Government:
What report they have received from the United Kingdom Deputy High Commissioner in Bombay regarding the case of a United Kingdom citizen Mr. Bipinchandra M. Patel, staying at Tarapur, district Kaira in Gujerat State, who has been served with a deportation order by the Indian immigration authorities requiring him to leave the country by July 9; how many times Mr. Patel has been inter viewed by officials of the High Commissioner's staff at Bombay; what advice was given to him at each of these interviews; and whether they will give instructions for him to be issued with an entry certificate before the deadline.
§ LORD GORONWY-ROBERTSMr. B. M. Patel is a British Protected Person834WA who, on November 10, 1972, applied for a special voucher to enable him to come to the United Kingdom for settlement. He has been interviewed twice at Bombay and twice at New Delhi and has also corresponded with both posts on a number of occasions during the past 18 months. It has been explained to him several times in person and by letter that he will have to wait his turn in the queue of applicants for special vouchers. The latest occasion was by letter on April 18 1974.
At no time has Mr. Patel informed the High Commission in New Delhi or its Bombay Office that he has been served with a deportation order by the Indian authorities. Had he done so, the High Commission would immediately have made inquiries of the Government of India who alone have the power to make deportation orders.
