HC Deb 11 July 1974 vol 876 c567W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now give approval for expenditure on the sewerage works at Walkerburn, Peebleshire.

Mr. William Ross

With the continuing need to limit public expenditure, it is necessary to restrict approvals to essential projects, and extensions to existing sewage treatment works can at present be considered only where there is a risk of serious pollution. I have no evidence of such a risk in the case of Walkerburn. Deferred projects will be reviewed as soon as the financial situation permits.
