Mr. Milne

asked the Minister of Overseas Development if she will list the amounts paid to Malta in development aid in each of the years from 1964 to 1974 and the projects for which they were intended.

Expenditure until September 1971 was incurred largely in respect of development projects agreed under the 1964 United Kingdom-Malta Agreement on Financial Assistance (Cmnd. 3111) and since then payments have been made under the 1972 agreement. There were several hundred projects covering many aspects of social and economic development in Malta. The heads of expenditure were as follows: Water, Industry, Tourism, Agriculture, Fisheries, Technical Education, Higher Education, Primary and Secondary Education, Roads, Sewers, Public Works and Buildings, Development Corporation, Dockyard, Port Development, Emigration, Electricity, Health, Housing, Antiquities, Restoration of Historic Buildings, War Damage. Throughout the whole period expenditure has also been incurred from regional and various functional technical assistance programmes.
