asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take action to encourage local authorities to grant council tenancies in the joint names of husbands and wives, so that equal rights to the home are established in law.

Mr. Freeson

The Government are considering the matter of joint tenancies in local authority housing in the context of the recently published Finer Committee Report and of their study of measures to deal with discrimination on grounds of sex.
