HL Deb 10 July 1974 vol 353 cc718-20WA
THE EARL OF LAUDERDALE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will make a statement on reports that a Russian trawler, manned by sailors in naval uniform, recently approached oil rigs operating off the Norfolk coast in a manner hazardous to safety and despite radio warnings to keep clear.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY FOR DEFENCE FOR THE ARMY (LORD BRAYLEY)

On the evening of June 24, and again in the morning and early afternoon of June 25, a Soviet Government ship approached within 500 metres of installations on the United Kingdom Continental Shelf some 55 miles North-East of Cromer around which 500 metre safety zones have been established under the provisions of the Convention on the Continental Shelf 1958. The attention of the Soviet authorities has been drawn to this infringement of the safety zones.

House adjourned at seven minutes past eleven o'clock.
