HC Deb 10 July 1974 vol 876 cc510-1W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he has been asked to intervene in the dispute concerning the suspended dock shop steward between the Transport and General Workers Union and the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Booth

No.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if his Department will intervene in the threatened all out strike on the Merseyside docks, concerning the suspended dock shop steward, details of which have been sent to him by the hon. Member for Liverpool, Scotland Exchange.

Mr. Booth

I understand from the National Dock Labour Board that the local dock labour board for the port of Liverpool yesterday decided upon appropriate disciplinary measures for the shop steward concerned. This decision removes the cause of the threatened dispute.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many man-hours have been lost on the Mersey docks in the dispute concerning the suspension of a dock shop stewards.

Mr. Booth

Approximately 41,000.
