§ Mr. Cledwyn Hughesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action has been taken following the publication of the report of the Summer-land Fire Commission.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsThe Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man has announced in Tynwald that the Isle of Man Government have taken the necessary steps to ensure that the findings and recommendations contained in the report receive the most careful and urgent attention. Certain steps have already been taken in the island, and others, including the preparation of fire legislation, are in hand. So far as the United Kingdom is 455W concerned, I and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State lot Scotland have invited the appropriate committee of the Central Fire Brigades Advisory Councils to consider the report with a view to ascertaining, as soon as possible, what lessons it may contain for fire precautions here. The committee's conclusions will be drawn to the attention of fire authorities and incorporated in the training provided by the Home Departments for brigade officers engaged in fire prevention duties. The building regulations which cover design and construction, and their enforcement by local authorities, are matters for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment and for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland. Both are considering the report from this point of view to determine whether amendments are required to these regulations and whether any other measures need to be taken.
