§ Mr. Batesasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total cost of local authority expenditure which was met by (a) domestic ratepayers, (b) non-domestic ratepayers, and (c) Government grants, in the latest year for which figures are available; and what would be the required increase in the standard rate of income tax if that part met by domestic ratepayers were instead to be met by the national Exchequer.
§ Mr. DellThe estimated outturn figures for the United Kingdom in 1973–74 are: (a) £1,200 million; (b) £1,491 million; (c) £3,826 million.
The increase in the basic rate of income tax required to produce extra revenue of £1,200 million would be about 4p.
