asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what consideration he is giving to the future of the Halt-whistle to Alston railway line; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Crosland

After careful consideration I have concluded that the decision of the previous administration should stand and that this service should be withdrawn as soon as the road improvements can be made.
