HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 cc274-5W
Mr. Sydney Irving

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made towards the development of the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre as the country's major spectator sports facility.

Mr. Denis Howell

New timing equipment and a water polo electronic results board have been installed in the 50 metre swimming pool. A 25 metre swimming pool, four more squash courts and an additional lecture room are being built. In the athletic stadium a further catering area, additional toilets and new Press and television facilities have been provided. A new electronic scoreboard is being built and will be ready by the end of the year.

I regard the complete enclosure of the athletics stadium as a matter of considerable importance and I am discussing with the Sports Council the desirability of an early completion of this project which will provide a new north stand with 5,000 covered seats.
