HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 cc275-6W
Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied that the Government policy of encouraging public transport is reflected in the outline plan for the Central Lancashire New Town.

Mr. Oakes

I do not propose to anticipate my right hon. Friend's decision on the Central Lancashire New Town Outline Plan which is to be the subject of a public inquiry on 17th September.

Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will consider deferring the starting date for the public inquiry into the outline plan for the Central Lancashire New Town in order to allow further time for public discussion of the road and transport policies of the Central Lancashire Development Corporation.

Mr. Oakes

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Preston, South (Mr. Thorne) on 19th June.

Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the co-operation between the development corporation and local authorities on transport facilities in the plan for the Central Lancashire New Town.

Mr. Oakes

I have no evidence to suppose that co-operation is not satisfactory.

Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, in view of the pending public inquiry into the Central Lancashire New Town outline plan, if he will consider making available to the general public any information that has not yet been published.

Mr. Oakes

No. It was for the development corporation to decide what additional information to publish along with its outline plan.
