HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 cc259-60W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many apprentices have begun their training in each of the crafts of the construction industry in each of the last four years; and what is the total to date during 1974.

Mr. Harold Walker

I regret that the information cannot be obtained in the time available and I will write to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total sum payable in 1974 by the training services agency of his Department to the Construction Industry Training Board; what proportion of that sum is intended to cover administrative costs; and what proportion will be used for payments to employers for training.

Mr. Harold Walker

I am advised by the Manpower Services Commission that in the financial year 1974–75 it is expected that the TSA will pay to the CITB approximately £300,000. This sum relates solely to grants expected to be paid under the old Department of Employment scheme mainly for training carried out in assisted areas. It does not include grants for training or operating expenses for which TSA responsibility does not begin until 1st April 1975.
