Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the number of persons in Scotland in each of the following socio-economic groups (a) semi-skilled manual workers, (b) unskilled manual workers, (c) farmers without employees and (d) agricultural workers; and if he will express these figures as a percentage of the total num ber of persons economically active in Scotland and as a percentage relative to the average for Great Britain.

When comparing these figures with those for other areas it should be borne in mind that the averages can be affected by influences such as variations in the pattern of industry. Comparisons may not therefore give a precise indication of differences in earnings for comparable work.
