The precise information requested is not available but the following table shows figures for the corresponding employment office areas:

while not registered as unemployed, would take employment if jobs could be found for them.

Mr. John Fraser

Statistics of the registered unemployed are compiled for employment office areas. Figures are available for the Clackmannan part of the constituency which broadly matches the area covered by the Alloa Employment Office. The corresponding details are not available for the East Stirling part of the constituency, which forms only a portion of the geographical area covered by the employment offices at Falkirk and Grangemouth.

Following is the information for the Alloa Employment Office area:

Unemployed females registered for employment
June 1974 169
June 1973 158
June 1972 367
June 1971 264
June 1970 110

The area of the Alloa Employment Office is almost coincident with Clackmannan County. At the time of the Census of Population, held in April 1971, there were 320 females described as either seeking work or waiting to take up employment already obtained. In April 1971 there were 206 females registered as unemployed at the Alloa Employment Office and the remainder, 114, may be regarded as unemployed but not registered as such.
