Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will list the approximate weekly cost of subsidies for each of the various foodstuffs whose prices she is seeking to control.

Mr. MacLennan

The average weekly cost of the present subsidies in the period up to 31st March 1975 is estimated to be approximately £5.1 million for milk, £1 million for bread, £830,000 for butter and £640,000 for cheese.
