(2) what proposals he has approved for new school building improvements in the East Staffordshire district, excluding Burton-on-Trent.
§ Mr. ArmstrongMy right hon. Friend has not approved any major school building improvement projects in Burton-on-Trent or East Staffordshire, nor any new school building projects in Burton-on-Trent, during 1973–74. Resources have yet to be allocated to local education authorities for major school building projects in 1974–75.
It is for local education authorities to decide which minor works projects should be carried out within the limits of the resources allocated to them.
§ Mr. Knoxasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much was spent on primary school building in Staffordshire in each of the past three years; and how many primary schools were built in each of these years in Staffordshire.
§ Mr. ArmstrongThe following table shows the number and value of major primary school projects started and the number of primary schools, or departments of primary schools, completed by local education authorities in Staffordshire in each year from 1970–71 to 1972–73. The 1973–74 building year was extended to 30th June 1974 and comparable figures for that year are not yet available.
