Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table listing the number of wage and salary earners in the following groups: less than £500, £500 to £999, £1,000 to £1,499, £1,500 to £1,999, £2,000 to £2,499 and over £2,500, in England, Scotland and Wales, respectively, and the percentage of total incomes in each country that fall within each group.

The latest information on distributions of earnings from surveys made by my Department relates to April 1973. The following estimates from the New Earnings Survey relate to full-time

Estimates of numbers of households with income in the specified range are not available. The following table gives percentages of households with household income at or below half the average household income for Great Britain, estimated from the results of the Family Expenditure Survey for 1972, together with the percentage comparison of these percentages with the corresponding percentage for Great Britain.
