HC Deb 01 July 1974 vol 876 c56W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give an estimate of the level of the general rate, the water rate, and the sewerage rate per capita and per household in Wales for the current financial year; if he will provide comparative figures for the general rate for every year since 1964; and if he will also provide this information on a country and district basis.

Mr. John Morris

Returns of rates for the current year have been received from only about half of the districts in Wales. For these, the average rates and charges have been estimated at approximately:

£
Per household
Rates 36.50
Sewerage 10.00
Water 12.50
59.00

Per head
Rates 12.50
Sewerage 3.50
Water 4.50
20.50

The only information readily available relating to the latter part of the Question is given in the annual publication "Rates and Rateable Values in England and Wales", the latest of which is for 1973–74.
