Mr. George Gardiner

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will publish a list of the political advisers within the Civil Service affected by his proposals to allow them to stand as parliamentary candidates; and the positions within the Civil Service which they currently hold.

The proposal to allow special advisers to Ministers to stand as parliamentary candidates might affect any of the special advisers who are now in post. A list of advisers and the Departments concerned was published in the OFFICIAL REPORT on 2nd May 1974 in reply to a Question from my hon. Friend the Member for Fife Central (Mr. Hamilton) to my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister.
