Mr. Kenneth Baker

The information is not readily available. I will write to the hon. Gentleman.

Mr. John Grant

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what was the weekly starting pay of a personal secretary in the Civil Service in London in November 1973.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

Following the Civil Service stage 3 anomalies settlement, from 7th November 1973 the weekly starting pay for new recruits in inner London of a personal secretary in the Civil Service varied between £30.75 and £34.77 according to qualifications and experience. In addition the starting pay of personal secretaries who meet the Civil Service proficiency tests in typing and shorthand or audio skills may be increased by up to £4.80 a week. Personal secretaries will be eligible for a normal stage 3 pay increase, effective from 1st January 1974.

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what percentage of personal secretary posts, including vacancies, were filled by established staff in November 1970, November 1972 and November 1973, respectively.

Mr. Kenneth Baker
