HC Deb 24 January 1974 vol 867 c313W
30. Mr. Cordle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to protect security of employment for all persons summoned to attend a court, whether as jurors or witnesses ; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Carlisle

Any action which might interfere with a citizen's duty to attend court as a juror or witness, or any attempt to penalise him for so doing, is a most serious matter. My right hon. Friend believes the law of contempt to be adequate to cover most abuses of this kind, and he is not persuaded that legislation is necessary.
