HC Deb 24 January 1974 vol 867 c312W
27. Mr. Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the troops at Heathrow are in support of and under command of the police.

28. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement about the special security arrangements at Heathrow.

Mr. R. Carr

On the information available to the police and the Government about the risk of a terrorist attack at Heathrow the contingency plan for the use of police and troops was put into operation. The police are at all times in charge of the operation and specify the tasks to be undertaken but actual command of the troops remains with their commanding officer.
