asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what will be the effect on the house building programme when the new economic measures are introduced.

New house building was exempted from the reductions of public expenditure announced on 17th December.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what, at the latest date, are the figures for house building, public and private, for 1973 ; and what are the comparative figures for 1970, 1971 and 1972, respectively.

17,818 and 12,215 houses were completed in the public and private sectors respectively in 1973. The figures for 1970, 1971 and 1972 are published in the Housing Return for Scotland, 31st December 1972.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many new houses were built in Scotland in 1973 ; and what percentage this represented of the total for the year 1970.

30,033, which is 70 per cent. of the total for 1970.
