HC Deb 06 February 1974 vol 868 c321W
56. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what he estimates will be the effect of the rate support grant proposals on Sunderland in terms of grant and rates and changes to the new basis.

Mr. Graham Page

As a result of the new grant arrangements it should be possible for the increase in rate burdens in Sunderland in 1974–75 to be kept substantially below the national average. But the actual figures will depend on decisions to be taken by the new Tyne and Wear and Sunderland Councils.
