HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 c640W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what studies are in progress on the use of tidal power in the United Kingdom.

Mr. John Smith

The Central Electricity Generating Board is at present studying the prospects for tidal power generation in the Severn Estuary. Results so far indicate that further investigation is warranted but much work has yet to be done before the economic viability or otherwise of the scheme can be fully assessed. Although the board is taking the lead in this latest study, my Department is closely involved.
