HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 c613W
Mr. Ridley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the average value of tenants' capital, per acre, on United Kingdom agricultural holdings.

Mr. Strang

A single figure for the United Kingdom is not available. Farm accounts collected from samples of full-time farms showed that the average value of estimated tenants' capital in 1972–73 was as follows:

£ per acre ofcrops, grass andrough gratings
England and Wales (excludinghorticulture 79
Scotland 29
Northern Ireland 84

The low average for Scotland reflects the high proportion of rough gratings in that country.
