§ Sir Bernard Braineasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress is being made by local authorities in drawing up waste disposal plans for their areas, including the designation of land for tipping purposes; and if he can now say when he proposes to implement Part 1 of the Control of Pollution Act by laying the requisite order.
§ Mr. Denis HowellI would refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply given to the hon. Member for Tonbridge and Mailing (Mr. Stanley) on Thursday 5th December. —[Vol. 882, c. 601.]—Local authorities are not yet under a statutory duty to draw up waste disposal plans. Many are, however, fully aware of the need to review the waste disposal needs of their area following local government reorganisation and are doing so.
