asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what community health councils in England have not yet had a chairman appointed;

(2) what community health councils in England have not yet had all their members appointed;

(3) what community health councils in England have not yet met.

Community health councils elect their own chairman. Seventeen out of the 207 councils in England have not yet met and have not, therefore, elected a chairman. Of the 17 the membership of the following councils is complete or largely complete and meetings have been arranged to take place during December and January:

  • North Staffordshire.
  • South East Staffordshire.
  • North Birmingham.
  • West Birmingham.
  • East Birmingham.
  • Sandwell.

The remaining councils which have not yet met are listed below. It is hoped that their membership will be complete by early in the new year and that meetings will be held during February.

  • Bromsgrove/ Redditch.
  • Hereford.
  • Worcester.
  • Kidderminster.
  • North Warwickshire.
  • South Warwickshire.
  • Salop.
  • Dudley.
  • Solihall

  • Walsall.
  • Wolverhampton.
