HC Deb 17 December 1974 vol 883 cc435-6W
Mr. Lamborn

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has for the reconstruction of the old public offices in Whitehall; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Crosland

The Government have decided to preserve the external facades and as many as possible of the fine interiors of the building. Mr. Anthony Cox and Mr. Michael Powers of Architects Co-Partnership have been commissioned to undertake a study to develop and cost the various options open to us for accommodating the Foreign and Commonwealth Office efficiently in its traditional home, including the practicability of preserving other fine features of the building. The study is expected to be complete by the summer of next year.
