HC Deb 17 December 1974 vol 883 c372W
42. Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what will be the effect of the reduced take-up of places in higher education on the pro posed expansion in the supply of nursery education teachers.

Mr. Prentice

I have no reason to expect that the supply of teachers for nursery education will be inadequate. But the decline in the number of births suggests the need to review the present balance of teacher training, to avoid the risk of training more teachers of the youngest children than the schools will be able to absorb.
