HC Deb 17 December 1974 vol 883 cc386-7W
Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many approved repairers of invalid tricycles have given notice of termination of contract since 1st January 1974.

Mr. Alfred Morris

The arrangements the Department has with its approved repairers are not on a formal contractual basis. Since 1st January 1974 three firms have withdrawn from the invalid vehicle repair service. Other firms have since taken their places.

Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when the present level of payments was fixed for the invalid tricycle breakdown and recovery service; and if she will propose to increase these payments.

Mr. Alfred Morris

These are continuously under review and are adjusted to take account of relevant cost increases. They were last increased in August 1974.

Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what facilities exist in the Gravesend and Medway area, following the termination of contract by the approved repairer, for the recovery of invalid tricycles in the event of breakdown and the delivery of replacement vehicles ; and what action she is taking to appoint an approved repairer in the area.

Mr. Alfred Morris

The full range of services is available, but not as conveniently as I would like, because an approved repairer withdrew his services last month. My intention is to establish a new facility in the area as soon as possible.
