HC Deb 17 December 1974 vol 883 cc392-3W
Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much money is being allocated for the construction of health centres in 1975–76; what applications she has had for such centres to be opened in Humberside; and in particular what stage has been reached in the matter of the Marmaduke Street health centre project, Hessle Road, Hull.

Dr. Owen

As announced by my right hon. Friend during the debate on the National Health Service on 2nd December—[Vol. 882, c. 1214–15.]—expenditure on health centres in 1975–76 is expected to be £20 million, at 1974 prices, compared with £15 million in 1974–75.

I am currently considering the selection of high priority schemes for inclusion in the 1975–76 programme. A health centre at Scunthorpe South is among the schemes submitted for consideration but is unlikely to be ready to start before March 1976. The health authorities are considering the development of a health centre at Marmaduke Street, Hessle Road, Hull, for inclusion in later programmes.
