asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many places there are at day centres for the elderly in Wales and in each local authority; and if he will express these totals per 1,000 population aged 65 years and over.

199 senior social service personnel were employed by local authority social services departments in Wales at the last complete enumeration. The geographical distribution is as follows:

centres for the elderly in Wales corresponding to a rate of 0.22 per 1,000 population aged 65 years and over: 16 are in Caernarvonshire—0.67 per 1,000; 45 in Glamorgan—0.46 per 1,000; and 25 in Merthyr—3.09 per 1,000.
