§ Mr. Newtonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many accidents have been recorded at or near the A130/A131 junction at Little Waltham, Essex, since the completion of the present junction and the Little Waltham bypass; how many have involved pedestrians; and how many people have been killed, seriously injured or slightly injured, respectively.
§ Mr. CarmichaelStatistics of road accidents and casualties in local areas are a matter for the local authorities concerned. I suggest the hon. Member contacts the Essex County Council.
§ Mr. Newtonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what requests 354W from or consultations with the Essex County Council his Department has had about road safety problems in the vicinity of the present A130/A131 junction at Little Waltham, Essex; what decisions or advice have been given and on what grounds; and if he will take steps to secure an improvement in vehicle and pedestrian safety in this area.
§ Mr. CarmichaelThe council consulted the Department about the improvement works carried out in 1972. It subsequently sought my right hon. Friend's consent to remove the 30 mph limit from a short stretch of road; on this no decision has yet been made. Any further local improvements in road safety are a matter for the council.
